Fray BentosThe name Fray Bentos is uncertain, however there is coincidence that could come from a friar of Bentos last name, a hermit monk who settled in the area called on the Uruguay River today as "Caracoles". In the mapping from the middle of 1600, begins to appear as toponímico "FrayVento" which suggests that to have importance and being recognized as geographical location, should have had several decades of use.
