Fray Bentos Atlantida
INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION MUSEUMThe Industrial Revolution Museum is located in the Anglo district, in the city of Fray Bentos, on the grounds that it was occupied by the former Anglo refrigerator.
The Museum of the Industrial Revolution is the product of the effort of the Municipality of Rio Black since 1988, facing the resident rich historical documentary heritage in what was the former liebig saladero and the "Frigorífico Anglo del Uruguay". Between the Anglo and the community there was a paternalistic relationship that the history of industrialization has revealed on multiple occasions. That kind of relationship puts people in a strong dependence of the company and feeds in the community based on a kind of mystical belief in the immortality of the system thus generates not admit the possibility of crises behaviors. But it came and to the complete shutdown of the company there were protests, demonstrations and marches walk to Montevideo. The Anglo worked as refrigerator until 1979 and was then closed. In June 1989 the central part of the refrigerator was declared "National Historic Landmark". Part of it became a museum, and other facilities were transformed into a Municipal Industrial Park in operating small businesses. |
EAGLE'S NESTThe Eagle, as the locals call it, was originally the house (favorite refuge) Natalio Michelizzi, a pioneer in this peculiar form of construction. His project was carried out by Juan Torres with artisanal means. The huge eyes are the windows of the living room, from which the open sea directly observed. It is easy to immerse yourself in the peace of this place to contemplate the horizon through those eyes, away from the world, just listening to the murmur of the sea. Undoubtedly, this mystical place is a must for those who approach the coast of Atlantis, on the beaches of Villa Argentina
